Is Wind-up Bird Murakami’s first? I forget. I know is story, and he iterest me, but I gotta admit the only book of his I ever read was What I Think About When I Think About Running, only because the topic intested me. My daughter’s fiancee read 1Q84 and said it was a lot to deal with, but really interesting. Just the size of the book scared the shit out of me. I’m a really slow reader. I’m going to force myself to read one of his books this year. Maybe on vacation.
I don’t think it’s his first but it certainly put him on the map.
I’m a pretty fast reader but, even though I’m really enjoying The Wind-Up Bird, it’s taking forever – I started it in July! It’s so strange and baffling, I have to put it down after a few pages and just sit for a while. It’s funny because it’s intriguing and I want to know what happens to this guy but it’s not a page turner that I just have to get through right away. Murakami does interesting things with time and reality in this novel and it seems to effect the way I read it too.
I think I recommend it though. It’s…. odd… You must be okay with digressions…
